Friday Friends

Week 6

RECONNECTING

Throughout the past five weeks, Friday Friends has been all about our connections with others and working on our relationships whilst at home. For our final week, we are focussing on reconnection – reaching out to those we may have lost touch with.

Making the choice to reconnect with old friends can reinforce our sense of connectedness and belonging.

So who hasn’t been in your life much lately?

Today’s task is to simply pick up the phone and chat to someone you haven’t spoken to in a while. Maybe it is an old school friend, a family member you haven’t spoken to recently, or even somebody you saw regularly – at the gym, at work, at a group – that you haven’t had contact with due to social distancing. Whoever it is, get in touch and reconnect.
However long you like!

Poem:

Merrily We Roll Along by Stephen Sondheim

So, old friends,

Fill me in slow, old friends

Start from hello, old friends.

I want the when, where and how.

Old friends do

Tend to become old habit

Never knew

How much I missed you till now.

Finally, for a little uplifting inspiration, read this article in which three people describe how the current situation has led to reconnection with others.

Also from the Guardian, this article explores reconnecting with old friends.
