Take Time Tuesday

Week 1

SELF-COMPASSION

Take Time Tuesday

For our very first Take-Time Tuesday, we are focussing on the work of Kristin Neff, author of Self Compassion (2011). Self-compassion refers to giving the same kindness towards ourselves (even if we are experiencing a difficult time) as we would to a good friend. It is considering how you can care and comfort yourself in the moment.

Research has shown that greater self-compassion correlates with lower levels of depression, anxiety and stress. So today, we are looking at ways you might begin to practice self-compassion.

Using a pen and paper, why not try this exercise from Kristen Neff. Consider how you would treat a friend who is struggling. How would you respond and support them? Do you treat yourself in the same way? If not, explore how you might. Read more about Kristin Neff’s work here.
