I watched Sally’s video early this morning and wondered what would be my ‘happy moment’ in a very busy day at work. I always try to be cheerful during the working day but I really wanted a ‘special’ moment.
In my lunch hour to my delight I saw a handsome husky dog lying in the sun whilst the owner was chatting on her phone. He sat up as I approached and raised his head for a pat. His fur was so soft to my touch, he then made gentle grunting noises of delight as I tickled his ears. He was so still and I felt a real connection that we were both in the same ‘moment’ together.
As a dog lover I was thrilled I had such a loving response from him. As I was about to leave his owner said, “you were very honoured, he doesn’t do that for everyone”.
That was my special moment, and I’m still smiling!
Oh Dena – that is so lovely! And what a beautiful dog (as a dog lover I can relate!). What I love is how you cherished that special present moment – and then afterwards reflected on it with a smile. Research shows that reflecting on these things (and even writing them down) enforces the positive effects.
May I encourage you to ensure that you also have your list of activities that ‘make you happy’ at hand and perhaps write them in your gratitude diary? Whatever works for you. And then consciously and intentionally go and seek to do one of these activities whenever you can. I struggled a bit today because I am poorly in bed, but on my ‘happy list’ was chatting to a good friend and ‘watching a happy movie’. So tonight I am intentionally going to call a friend who makes me smile, and then watch a happy film. If you have smaller things on your ‘happy list’ like looking at the sun, or listening to the birds tweet (you sound like a nature lover!, but whatever works for you) then they are more easily incorporated into your daily life. Hope this helps – if not shout back! Happy Tuesday Dena! Love xx
What a lovely moment to share, you’ve inspired me to be greatful for smaller moments throughout my day…..
Hi Dena,
I just LOVE moments like this! Simple pleasures are the best x
Lovely – I think its a sign…I keep saying you should get get a dog..they clearly like you :)
Hear hear – simple moments all add up. Loving the picture, by the way.
Hi Dena, I love the fact that this is one of those simple pleasures. It didn’t cost anything, it wasn’t arranged, it wasn’t part of anything bigger and it occurred without effort. Beauty in the everyday. Thank you for sharing this simple yet beautiful experience. Namasté
